If you’re living in Australia right now, you’ve probably stocked up on knits, pretty scarves and new jeans to see you through the season. And who can blame you? There’s nothing like new threads to lift your spirits. Just as your wardrobe changes to adapt to the new season, so does your skincare routine. Your skin needs all the TLC as the air cools. Fear not, I’ve got the lowdown on 5 hero products to help your skin glow this winter.
- Exfoliating Scrub
Winter means one thing for your skin: dry, patchy skin. The cure? Renewal of skin cells. Now, your skin is really smart and renews itself *but* those shiny new cells won’t show unless you get rid of the flaky ones sitting on top. Cue: powerful exfoliator/special dead skin cell remover.
Exfoliating Scrub by Botani it is full of good ingredients that will not only exfoliate the skin, but also renew and nourish at the same time. Sweet, huh?
And the good stuff includes:
- Jojoba oil that replenishes natural minerals and oils.
- Quandong fruit extract that brightens the appearance of skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and calms inflamed skin.
- Olive squalene which is literally a miracle ingredient. It hydrates, slows down aging, rejuvenates and soothes your skin at the same time.
Choosing a high quality exfoliator is very important and I can vouch for that. It removes impurities and removes flaky patches to give you a beautiful radiant glow. A winner for sure.
2. Soothing facial mist
Toners don’t have enough talk time if you ask me. I have combination skin
And just to add to the fun, she switches from “good glow” to “embarrassed teen blush all over” multiple times throughout the day. Gar. So I like to keep it moisturized and even. A few sprays of this scented face mist keeps my weird skin under control.
As a bonus, it’s the antidote to indoor heating that dries out your skin like nothing else. Keep it in your bag and give your face some love 3 times a day. Enriched with rose water and chamomile, it’s the perfect scent to calm your mood too. Yay for that!
3. Repair olive cream
Sometimes, you just need to get the heavies out and this jar of goodness is definitely that. And more. So much more.
Before I get into why this cream is the ducks, there is something you should know. A whole bunch of moisturizers you find on the shelves today contain 90% water. That might sound okay, but what it really means is that only 10% of it contains active ingredients that will hydrate your skin. The likelihood that these products will penetrate your cells and hydrate is quite low.
Olive Repair Cream, on the other hand, is packed with the good stuff that *will* work.
When you open this lovely tub, you’re met with the most delicious, thick and luscious pot of miracle cream. Once applied, it instantly plumps up your skin. You’d expect a product of this weight to give your winter skin an oily look, but, my friends, it’s the opposite. Matte, hydrated, baby-bottom smooth, glowing skin is what you’ll get.
Highly recommended all year round, but especially in winter when the drying gods are out in force.
4. Olive Skin Serum
As a lady who has oily skin on the reg, I avoided serums. So deep was my fear of oil on oil that I relied solely on moisturizers for most of my adult life. Oh, how misplaced my fears were. This serum is what skin dreams are made of. It is so powerful that it minimized the appearance of the facial scar after my husband’s melanoma was removed in three months. Thank heavens he is a glorious person.
Anyway, I digress. This serum is a multi-tasker. Highly skilled in the art of hydrating, calming, reducing the appearance of fine lines and adding a beautiful glow to fresh skin with a serum. Use morning and night and see if you don’t agree. It will banish that dreaded winter skin.
It also outperforms any primer you’ll find on the market. Apply, wait 10 minutes, add makeup and enjoy.
5. Healing Lip Balm
Ugh, is there anything worse than flaky, dry lips during the winter? Well, sure, there are global pandemics, economic disaster and isolation, but funky lips definitely come in fourth place.
This healing lip balm, like all Botani products, is 100% vegan and 100% plant-based. Basically, 200% improvement in Lip Smackers. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a glossy tube of grape-scented Lip Smackers as much as the next ’90s kid *but* don’t they do much in the way of hydration?
This, in comparison, is a wonderful blend of natural vanilla oil, olive oil, olive wax, olive squalene, evening primrose oil, and healing calendula oil. When you combine all these wonderful ingredients together, you get a burst of amazing high quality that makes your kisser well, kissable.
A must for anyone with lips.
Okay. I think I have achieved my words for the day. Thanks for reading. I’ll be back next month to give you my insights on something skin care related. Or King Tiger. Or maybe even 70s music. I enjoy the 70s.
Stay hydrated all you cool cats and kittens.
