Get ready for the best news all day: baths have benefits! A long soak in the bath can lift your mood, help you sleep better and relieve muscle pain. And while all you need is hot water, there are certainly ways to enhance your bath to maximize your relaxation. With that said, grab your favorite shower gel and bath products! Here are 8 ways to enjoy your bath.
8 ways to enjoy the bath
#1: Bring a book
Today is, in fact, National Bath Tub Reading Day! So, of course, you should bring a book with you in the bath.
Try choosing a reading that aligns with the type of atmosphere you want to create. Something refreshing and motivating can be a great addition to your morning bath. But if you’re creating a warm, relaxing atmosphere, you might want to indulge in something romantic. And then, of course, the less squeamish can get their fill of a thrilling thriller.
But of course, if you already have a novel you’re invested in, bring it! More than anything else, it’s important to read something you’re excited about.
#2: Invite an AI Along
Nothing creates a spa-like atmosphere like some music, especially when you have AI to streamline it the best (and you can use voice commands!).
Whether you have Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri, invite some AI along so you can safely enjoy your tunes. There are many spa playlists on Spotify or choose one of your own relaxing playlists. Relaxing music and soothing lavender bath products are the perfect combination!
#3: Time your bath properly
We often associate bathing strictly with relaxation. But believe it or not, a bath can be used to improve any time of your day, especially morning and night.
The bathrooms are great for a good night’s sleep. This is not only because they are relaxing, but also because our body temperature tends to drop once we get out of the bath and back into the cool air, and this can help improve sleep quality.
And while this might make a morning bath sound unpleasant, it can actually be the best way to unwind during the day. Too often, our mornings are go, go, go. While a bath may require a bit more preparation than a quick shower, a bath will help you slow down and think about the day ahead. And that’s a good thing because when we wake up and get ready for the day with racing thoughts, we can end up carrying that stress into the rest of our day.
If you plan to use the time of day to your advantage, try using natural light for your bathroom. If you have good light in your bathroom, try taking a bath in the early morning to ground yourself. While you’re at it, refresh your skin with a cooling mask. And if you’re taking a leisurely bath in the evening, try setting it around sunset to encourage a more restful evening.
#4: DIY a spa manicure
You’re already in the tub, so you might as well keep the spa vibes going. And what better way to do that than with a DIY manicure? If you prefer to keep busy while you bathe, bring the file and your favorite nail color to the tub. Check out our blog here to find out the safest nail paint brands.

#5: Invest in a side table or tub
Now, this step really applies to all of these steps, because it can seriously upgrade your entire bathroom experience. Try investing in a tub tray. Tub trays can be perched across the length of your tub so you basically have a table suspended above your waist. They can hold all your bathroom needs, like candles, a drink, a good book, or your supplies for a DIY mani.
#6: Prepare an oil treatment for the bath
You know you’ve had a good bath when your skin feels soft. An oil treatment makes the perfect setting for this. A hair oil treatment takes a little preparation before your bath, but it will be worth it. Here is a basic recipe from The Farmer’s Almanac:
½ c. Olive oil (Can be reduced to ¼ c. for short hair)
¼ q. Mint oil
¼ sq. Vegetable glycerin
Briefly heat the combined ingredients in a saucepan on the stove or in a bowl in the microwave until warm, but not hot. With your head and hair hanging over the sink or tub, pour the warm oil into your hair and gently massage the scalp and all over the hair.
Put the hair on the top of the head and in a shower cap. Fill with the dry, warm towel. Leave on the head for 30 minutes while you relax. While your hair treatment is in progress, it’s a great time to grab another of our favorite bath products, the Lavender Body Scrub, and give your feet a nice polish.
Plan a warm bath and wash your hair while in the tub. Treating your hair with oil will hydrate your dry skin while you shower.
If you’re not in the mood to go through all the steps to complete a hot oil treatment, try adding a little essential oil to the bath for instant aromatherapy. You can hydrate your skin with some nourishing oils to add to your bubble bath, such as Gentle Bubble Bath.
#7: Add a hair mask before heading in
A nice soak in a bubble bath can do the body good. But why not treat your hair too? If you add a hair mask before you start your bath, you will have time to work its magic on your hair. Plus, the steam from the bath can help your mask work even better. You can find a ton of hair masks on the market or you can soak your hair in a great oil like argan oil.
#8: Fog and reset
Bathing can be a relaxing, rejuvenating time. But the moments after the bathroom counts as well! After your bath, moisturize your face with a face mist or if you need a cool one, a face oil.
