Shine on this Forty Something Face
I think one of my all-time favorite foundations has been knocked off the winner’s podium: I’ve finally found a long-wear makeup base that I love more than Lancome’s Teint Idole Ultra Wear. It’s…Teint Idole Ultra Wear Care & Glow by Lancome. And no, I’m not aggressive: this is a whole new foundation. This bit Care & Shine at the end of the name it makes all the difference – it’s fresher, lighter but still flying the longwear flag. Perfect makeup with a little extra sparkle? I’ll get some of these.

Because I loved the Original Teint Idole
I shouldn’t really say beloved in the past tense because I still think the Lancome original Teint Idole Ultra Wear is one of the most comprehensive luxury foundation offerings out there. The coverage is brilliant and lasts all day and night, no matter what you’re doing, while somehow leaving your skin looking like skin without draining all the life out of it. There’s no need for a separate concealer, but you don’t feel like your makeup is overdone or heavy either – no heaviness, no fine lines, it’s just a versatile face base that feels much more plump and non-drying than it should be.

Because Care & Glow is different
The newest Care & Glow foundation adds – and the clue is in the name here – skincare ‘care’ ingredients to the Teint Idole formula and a dose of healthy, radiant glow to the foundation’s finish. It has slightly less coverage than Teint Idole Ultra Wear, but at the same time it’s slightly more buildable and versatile so it’s easier to double up around the nose and under the eyes if you feel like you need a little extra camouflage.
Importantly, Teint Idole Ultra Wear Care & Glow retains its long-wear – 24-hour wear – claim, making it the perfect switch-up for those who love the original foundation but want more of a shimmery sheen than the camera-ready matte velvety finish of the original. .
Is Teint Idole Ultra Wear Care & Glow Foundation better than the original?
I’m going to go all-in here and say Yes. I prefer the newer version Care & Glow. I’ve been wearing it for about a year, regularly, and I have to say I find it much more versatile than the original, standard version. While the original is absolutely brilliant for creating a flawless canvas (it looks especially good on film, which is a big part of my professional life), Care & Glow just adds the touch of glow that I think my face needs, right now who I am was apparently moving into my forties at a speed I didn’t even know existed.
When it comes to my makeup, I don’t want glitter, I don’t want glittery highlights, I want the fresh “I’ve just taken a jog up and down the canal” look. Because I don’t live anywhere near a canal and even if I did it’s highly unlikely you’d ever see me jogging. I just want the skin benefits of jogging. And a gentle jog at that – don’t give me the insanely sweaty look that seems to be all the rage on Instagram, where faces look like they’ve been oiled and polished in a mirror.
My face has never it looked so cool naturally, even when I was nineteen (probably ten Benson & Hedges a day) and I don’t need it to look that cool now: what I need it to look like I haven’t just spent three years crossing the Arctic surviving on a dehydrating diet of gin and dry crackers. I have to look like I don’t spend half the time stuck inside, typing on my laptop with my knees propped up on the fridge. I must look like a woman who doesn’t have a diet that currently consists of 85% Colston Bassett cheese.
So, yes: a touch of glow, please, and if I want or need more than that, I’ll just pull a highlighter out of the special forgotten stuff drawer and put it on top. If I want to go “full robotic” like the people on Tiktok, who look like they’ve been gilded in gold leaf, I’ll take care of it myself. If I want to look like forty-three snails have run across my face, in circles, then I know how to achieve it, and thank you, Lancome, for not incorporating it into your Teint Idole Care & Glow.
Teint Idole Ultra Wear Care & Glow before and after photos
Some before and after shots for you, just to show the genius at work. you can see that Care & Glow reverses the redness around my nose and some of the darkness around my eyes. This was a very light app. Almost a “waste” of it, if I were to get all poetic, with a more targeted application to the areas that needed it:
I’ll zoom in so you can get a better idea – can you see how gorgeous and fresh the finish looks? The only way I can describe the feel of the foundation is to say “full and versatile” and I hope that doesn’t sound too much like a character from a He continued film. The addition of the moisturizer to the formula definitely gives it a lovely, hydrating feel, but its long-wearing finish means it’s not greasy or slippery all over the shop. You can trust that once activated it will almost stay in place.
Teint Idole Ultra Wear Care & Glow Shades
When Lancome revised the original version of Teint Idole they changed the shades and good heavens did long time fans get annoyed. I didn’t have too much trouble matching my old shade to a new one, but I can see how it was extra admin work that people didn’t want, especially when they’ve been using the same foundation in the same shade for years and years. I would hazard a guess that Lancome had to change the shade numbers because they added so many new ones, but please don’t shoot the messenger. I’m not even a messenger, I’m… a speculator.
The good news is that the Care & Glow shades seem to line up pretty well with the standard formula shades – my 220C is pretty much the same in both. Maybe the standard non-glare version is a touch darker, but I’m really splitting hairs here! They do a shade match on Lancome website here but i really like it A find to double check my foundation shades online and I’ve always found it pretty accurate.
Care & Glow comes in thirty shades, but the standard Teint Idole has an impressive forty-five, so it’s still breaking new ground in that regard. I’m just absolutely sold on the juicier look, bouncier feel and a little extra sparkle: I don’t think I’ve worn the regular version since I got the new one!
