YSL Beauty has revamped the cult classic Rouge Volupte Shine in a new formula called the Loveshine Oil Lipstick ($45 each). They seem to have kept the formula pretty much the same. They’ve been revamped with new packaging and new ingredients, including Fig Pulp for sensitive lips.
I picked up quite a few of the shades as I loved the original and was very curious about these new ones. Their marketing and rebranding is genius! Most of the shades look like new, but they’ve kept some of the originals, including 44 Nude Lavalliere and 150 Nude Lingerie.
The Loveshine formula it’s quite sheer with a glossy, balm-like finish. The lasting power for the colors won’t really last long unless you layer over a long-lasting lip pattern, but the hydration seems to last a long time for soft, supple lips.
Overall this news Loveshine lipstick perform the same as Rouge Volupte Shine on me. The pigment of the newer formula seems to be more sheer than the original, with many of the lighter neutrals pulling very similarly on my lips. I found that I really liked the darker, brighter shades that I ordered, and if I were to do my haul, I would have gone for all the brighter colors.
I haven’t been able to edit and post pictures here due to time, but I wanted to get swatches and a review before the Sephora sale ends for those who have been asking. I posted a test reel here, which I’ll also link below.
What I’m wearing:
In the shades I chose:
- 201 Rosewood Blush is a sheer rosy pink (looks warmer in the tube, but cool on my lips)
- 202 Peachy Glow is a taupe rose nude (also cool on my lips)
- 203 Blushed Mallow is a cool mauve
- 204 Melted Honey is a sheer soft beige
- 205 The naked self is a rose berry
- 207 Scenic Brown is a berry brown shade
- 209 Pink Desire is quite a warm brighter pink
- 44 Nude Lavalliere is a soft cool-toned pink
- 150 Nude Lingerie is a warm peach pink
Quick note that my hand is extremely open right now which makes everything look warmer than it does on my face. I’ve had some interesting conversations with some of you about skin tone and tanning – and many of you are twins in my skin with winter skin tone vs. summer skin tone. Many colors (including foundations) are straight orange on me now. With most of my foundations I have to do a little blending with it Elf Halo glow filter the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filters in lighter shades. I also have to do a LOT of blending on my neck area. I haven’t been this light in skin tone since I left San Diego, but since I tan easily I suspect I’ll be back to my favorite year-round color very soon.
The feedback from some of you about these new Loveshines is mixed. There are many of you out there who are TOTALLY obsessed with this effortless bang. I like it too, but a part of me wishes the pigment was maybe 10% to 15% more intense. I think the undertones and colors are SO beautiful, but I wish they looked better on my lips. Then there are a few of you who messaged me that you bought some and returned them because they were so clean they didn’t show up on you.
I love what I picked up, although I may have missed some of the shades due to similarities in my choices. I can think of an occasion to wear whatever shades I picked up. I would say my top three: 209 Pink Desire, 150 Nude Lingerie and 205 Nude Self.
