F1's damson idris just wants to make black women proud

Damson Idris is struggling straight to become a Hollywood house. But no matter where his career takes him then, we can say that we saw him first. The “we” are black women, of course, named British Nigerian actor as a certified internet friend long before his protagonist shift in the first big summer blockbuster. After the audience fascinates as Franklin Saint in SnowfallIdris shifts the tools-literally-in high-octane territory with his leadership role in F1Formula 1 Match movie by director Joseph Kosinski and producer/ star Brad Pitt. Whether it incorporates a southern central king or loads a racing costume against Hollywood’s heavy heavyweight, Idris brings depth, precision and a quiet confidence that continues to stand out. And as Unbothered Christa Eduafo himself discovered when he recently sat with him in New York, the actor is well aware that the black female fanbase is betting on the Damson Idris stock early.

“I can’t wait to go on this trip with me throughout my career,” Idris said with a smile.

Here, Idris opens for the evolution of his career, his mother’s influence both as Ankara and as a humiliating presence (African mothers remain on the brand) and the steadfast support he receives from the fans who lead him from the first day. Also shows his upcoming role in Blood and bone childrenthe highly expected fantasy epic based on Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel. Among the Blockbuster projects and maintaining rooted in purpose, Idris proves that it is not just an up -and -coming star, shaping the future of black narrative, with full speed to Superstardom – and we ride a shotgun.

Unbothered: You have a protagonist in what will be the summer blockbuster. Walk me when you discovered that you were going to be on F1. Was it shock? Was it alert? How did this feel?

Damson Idris: Man, I was in the Turks and the Caicos. So I was on vacation, I was watching the sunset, and then I got a phone call: “Hi, do you want to be a Formula 1 driver?” And I lost my mind. I just shouted at the heavens. This is a place I prayed for. I dreamed of this, so that I was able to finish it, and be in this place today where I think we made a brilliant movie, it’s a dream come true.

List the prayer. You have said that you have expressed this role. In a previous interview, you said you downloaded the Formula One game and named your player, Joshua Pierce, which is the name of your character in the movie. Do you often express?

Di: 100%. I understand how powerful we are as beings and with the characters I play, I believe that what is mine. So it’s really a feeling that I tend to hunt. With SnowfallI really wanted to work in the states and I liked these kinds of gangster movies like Goodness; American gangster And the like. And then with this movie, I really wanted to play an athlete because of my football background. But I was also ready and prepared for a movie that I think will reach every corner of the world. So when this opportunity came, I knew it was mine and I wanted to do a great job. So let’s hope that I made everyone proud.

You were amazing in the movie. I am also a great event, and it is just to know, just to be sure, and that is really that. So between Joshua Pierce and Snowfall Franklin, you play characters that have a lot of aura to them. So I was wondering, would you say you have aura?

Di: I just learned what aura is the other day. Do I have aura? I don’t know. No, I’m the worst person I ask. I will never admit that I have aura. I will never admit it, but I don’t know. Okay, yes, I got a small, tiny, little sprinkle of aura [laughs].

[My mum] It’s my biggest fan. When the movie comes out, the view that matters to me is her own.

Damson Idris

You recently said that you are more excited about your mom to see this movie and that she would call to check your safety when you were in the set. What were these calls?

Di: Only screaming in Yoruba, “Better to be safe!” It’s my biggest fan. So when the film comes out, you know, the view that matters to me is her own.

Your character in the movie, Joshua, has such a beautiful close relationship with his mother. And I know you mention all the time that you have one with your own. So I was wondering, how does your mom keep you as your star is growing?

Di: I call her all the time. I call her every day. In this career [journey] That I am, you know, you spend so much time on the back of a car only, only in a hotel room, you know, alone on a plane so that I have someone who can call that it just reminds me of where I came from is so important to me. And my mom is this person.

This is so valuable to have. I’m Ghana, so African parents can be our biggest cheerleaders, but they can also humiliate us with love. So I was wondering if you have an example of a time that your mom brought you with love back to earth.

Di: Oh, my girlfriend, when I started acting, working in a theater is this respectable thing in the United Kingdom. So I would do games, and my mom will come and watch the works, and would be like, “Yes, the theater is ok but when you will be EastEnders or Hollyoaks; Because my mom loves soaps. So in my mind, quite funny, through it was how I said to myself, Man, I have to be on a screen. So, yes, I guess my mom was a huge motivation for it. It was overwhelmed by the parts of my theater.

I am grateful that [Black women] Support my job. I can’t wait to go on this trip with me throughout my career. I always want to make black women proud.

Damson Idris

You have a lot of black female fans. You’re a little heart. How was this attention? Is it a new experience, something you pay attention to or is it just a background noise?

Di: I don’t pay attention, but I am grateful to support my work and that they support my aura. I can’t wait to go on this trip with me throughout my career. You know, I always want to make black women proud. He grew me by one.

Can you give a small message to your black women’s fans?

Di: For the beautiful black women out there who support me, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I can’t wait to watch F1. I promise you, Joshua has aura [laughs].

You know exactly how we felt when we went out Panther; So we will feel [Children of Blood and Bone]. We put everything in it.

Damson Idris

Blood and bone children It’s next to you. Just wrapped. This was a stacked cast. You worked with many members of the diaspora there. What was the most exciting place to be part of this movie?

Di: So many of them are my friends that I have met for so long. By passing on this journey, we always say the same thing to each other: “When will we work together?” So, I overthrow my hat in Paramount and Gina Prince-Vevul to assemble a juggernaut of a cast. We spent six months in Cape Town’s shop and just wrapped. Every day, a new heavyweight will come and prove why they exist. You know, from Idris to Viola to Chiwetel to Regina to Cynthia. I could just say their first names and you know what time it is.

But we also just watch many of us, younger actors, find our way and our possession and our power. Tosin Cole and Amandla stenberg; MBEDU OLDThe lead, which I think is such a beautiful actor. I can’t wait for her career to bloom. So I feel really blessed. Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, there was such a great energy in the set. You know exactly how we felt when we went out Panther; This is how we will feel with this image. We put everything in it. We showed so much respect for Africa and showed so much respect for history.

F1 now plays in theaters.
