I grew up in Union City, New Jersey, which is sometimes referred to as “Little Havana in Hudson”. It is the house in one of the largest Cuban communities outside Miami, thanks to the waves of Cuban immigrants who settled there in decades. Walking around, you see it in restaurants like Dos Amigos (where the only thing on the menu is a Pan Con Bistec), the way the Cuban flag flying just below the US around the city and Celia Cruz Square on 32nd Street. So it is no wonder that every time I go home, I have to grab a Cuban sandwich, Cuban connections have always been part of my stack necklace and even my father in Colombia will comfortably throw an “asre” around his colleagues.
This magnetism is what makes Cuban culture so special. With about 1.5 million Cuban Americans in all the US, their culture quiet (or not so quietly) affects what we see, wear and experience every day. If you are looking to support Cuba fashion, try the Mojo -inspired sauces or discover more Cuban American businesses that are worth supporting, here are some that you should definitely check.
