Yes. There has never been any discussion to do anything but go to college (if I’m honest, I don’t know what I could or would have done if I didn’t watch college). We paid very little out of pocket. Our state has peaks, which is like scholarships based on your ACT scores. I’m not sure it works in other states. Between this and the Pell grants, almost most of my college was paid until the tops have been cut for a semester. Then I had to pay myself $ 800, and of course, I paid for books and work books. When I went to school, I was a master’s degree – I paid fees, but my tuition resigned because I worked for the school.
Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have for the money? Do your parents/guardians train you for finances?
We didn’t really had talks about money, but I knew we didn’t have much. My mom was a single mother and worked part -time as a secretary. I knew I didn’t have everything other kids – I saw my friends have new things or go on trips and we didn’t do it until my sister and I both did our own money. It’s okay, my friends always shared and brought me.
What was your first job and why did you get it?
My first job was horrible. I was 17 years old and it was a grocery store. My partners were ok most of the time, but when I worked the register, we always had awesome customers. The rude people, the gross men trying to flirt with you (retail workers know). I got it to pay my car insurance and help pay off my upper ring.
Are you worried about the money that is growing up?
I did it. I would often ask my mom if we were charged. I was always anxious even as a child. When the financial crash of 2008 happened, I would watch the news and ask my mom if we were to be okay.
Are you worried about money now?
I do it. I feel that I have a “living salary” right in time for inflation to make it unsustainable anywhere, but this state. I don’t want to stay here. Right now I’m looking for a higher payment job so I can move to Atlanta because I don’t think this salary will cut it out there.
At what age became financially responsible for yourself and have a financial security net?
I would say that when I moved to 23. I moved back home and became independent again after moving again to 26. I don’t want to work forever.
Have you ever received passive or hereditary income? If yes, explain.
I said we were poor, lol. There is no hereditary income here. My grandparents have no assets to carry us. My parents will leave us the insurance money when they pass away, but we hope they have many more years ahead of them.
