My mom encouraged education. My parents told me they would pay for the grad school if it were a good program. I worked at Undergrad to pay for living expenses: teaching, research and summer practice. I recently added and realized that I made over $ 50,000 during these four years! Yes! Today, I am just teaching the side of $ 30 an hour, or do internships.
Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have for the money? Does your parents train you on finances?
Not much, really? Just don’t spend money and try to do more. But I was also told that it is better to live a life that you are happy and to make choices that are aligned with your values and not to follow the money. My mom stopped working for a few years when I was young to raise me and my brothers, so it was only my dad working for a while. My dad didn’t do enough to support a family in the Hcol area, so we lived with our relatives. It makes me think what I would do if I have kids. Can I just give the child to my parents?
What was your first job and why did you get it?
My first job, at 16, was in a health care facility that did the receptionist’s work. We paid the minimum wage and my parents put it all in my 401 (k). I worked there until I went to college.
Are you worried about the money that is growing up?
I had a very happy childhood playing in dirt with worms, with normal concern for money. I knew it was limited and saw how hard my parents worked to win it. I had a lot of struggles screaming with my mom when I lost a bottle of water or destroyed a pair of glasses, haha. I went to public school all my life until I graduated from school. Great fan of good public education.
Are you worried about money now?
My dad has a job now that he works in the bone, so I don’t want to get money from him because I feel that he is money that comes at the cost of his life. I was worried about the money in New York a little, but I feel more comfortable now that I’m working. I really like food and opportunities in the city and I am grateful to be here, but it is really stressful here and not only because of the cost. I think I’m a cold farm in the heart – I stress from noise and flock from people. I had stolen my phone in the first week I was in New York, but that was also partly my own mistake for being on my phone at Times Square. But I also get free food sometimes from good business owners. Many New York people are very kind.
At what age became financially responsible for yourself and have a financial security net?
I’m not financially responsible for myself: My parents help me when I need it. I intend to go to more training, so I will continue to have no real money for a while.
Have you ever received passive or hereditary income? If yes, explain.
My parents/relatives give cash in red folders every New Year. This is usually my fun money and I always use it with food.
