A Week On Vancouver Island With A Salary Of $92,000
Occupation: Senior Business Analyst
Industry: Tech
Age: 30
Location: Vancouver Island
Salary: $92,000
Assets: Our home is currently valued at $989,000, we have a total of $150,000 in pension and about $60,000 in various company stocks and GICs. My wife M. and I have completely messed up the finances. I’ll be tracking both as I basically spend what he spends (M makes $60,000, for a combined pre-tax income of $152,000).
Debt: $3,000 on a zero interest credit card over a 10 month period (we balanced the transfer and paid $400/month). $480,000 in mortgage. We refinanced in September 2023 for a five-year fixed rate, however I don’t consider the mortgage because of the equity we’re earning and that our mortgage on a five-bedroom, three-bathroom single-family home is less than the rent for a two-bedroom condo in Vancouver
Payment Check Amount: My salary is $2,555 after taxes. M. makes $2,308 after taxes. Our pay periods rotate.
Pronouns: She/her

Expenses
Housing costs: Our mortgage is $1,450, paid every two weeks (we pay $100 extra to the principal).
Weekly loan payments: $100 on a credit card.
All other expenses:
Utilities: About $200 (includes water, paid quarterly, hydro, paid bimonthly, gas, sewer and trash, paid quarterly, phone, heavily discounted due to work plans for M and I, and auto gas).
Insurance: $84
Life insurance: $167 combined ($67 for me, $100 for M.)
Health & Dental Insurance: $60 is deducted from pay (coverage for me and M from my employer. M also has coverage for both of us that is deducted from his pay).
Pension contribution: $400 (Employee matches me. M has a defined benefit pension through work and contributes ~$200 monthly.)
Union fees: $70 (for M.)
Subscriptions: Asking $22 per month (recent overage to monitor The rookie) Playstation Plus $100 (annual, purchased as a Black Friday deal). Amazon Prime $80 (annual) BCAA $120 (annual); gym $30 a month (we both have one so $15 per person).
