Adrenal Cocktail Recipe And Why You Should Try It

You may have heard of adrenal cocktail and seen this “trendy” drink popping up on Instagram. Drinking an adrenal cocktail can help with stress response and more, and I break it down in today’s post!

Hello friends! I hope you have a wonderful week. For today’s post, I’m very excited to dive into today’s topic: the adrenal cocktail. It’s been lighting up our social media feed lately, so let’s spill the beans on this exciting concoction and the benefits of an adrenal cocktail! Picture this: a delightful blend of refreshing coconut water (or aloe vera juice), tangy orange juice and a pinch of salt.

Now, you might be wondering what the fuss is all about. Well, it all comes down to our energy levels, chronic stress, and something called adrenal fatigue. You see, our adrenal glands play a key role in managing stress and maintaining our overall well-being. But sometimes, these little glandular warriors can get a little tired, leading to energy dips and adrenal fatigue.

There, the magical mixture of orange juice, coconut water and sea salt pours out to save the day! This dream team combination is believed to support adrenal function and give our blood sugar levels a much needed boost. Orange juice contains an amount of vitamin C, which works like a superhero for our immune system. Coconut water brings hydration to the party, replenishing those electrolytes like a champ. Last but not least, a sprinkle of sea salt adds a delicious kick and provides essential minerals that keep our adrenals doing a happy dance.

Now, it’s important to note that there are many variations of the adrenal cocktail out there. Some people like to add a little lemon juice or even a pinch of cinnamon for an extra kick. Feel free to experiment and make it your own!

I reached out to A about chatting about it on the blog and authored this post!

So what is an adrenal cocktail?

An adrenal cocktail includes a mixture of potassium, sodium, and vitamin C. Now, when it comes to adrenal cocktails, some people like to be a little bold with their mixes. Picture this: a tasty mix of potassium, sodium and vitamin C, but with a creamy texture. That’s right, we’re talking about adding a touch of coconut cream to the mix. It’s like going from a regular workout to a full-on dance party for your taste buds!

But wait, there’s more! If coconut cream isn’t your jam, why not give coconut milk a go? This silky and slightly sweet alternative can give your adrenal cocktail a tropical holiday vibe. Just imagine drinking your coconut elixir and feeling those stress-busting benefits wash over you like waves on a sandy beach. Ah, heaven in a glass!

It can be useful in your routine if:

  • They are constantly tired and lethargic
  • Stressed out and grab that extra caffeine to power through the day
  • You have trouble sleeping and suffer from “tired but wired” syndrome.

Just know that you are not alone if you are dealing with these things and we have (one) of the answers for you to help you out of this hole.

So what are the adrenal glands?

The adrenal glands sit right on top of both kidneys. These small glands produce hormones that regulate your stress response, metabolism, glucose, blood pressure, and immune system. When taxed, the rest tank. The body craves homeostasis and balance. It’s also very good at adapting, so if you’re stressed in one area, it’ll decrease in another area to compensate for what it needs to use to keep you alive and functioning.

  • Example: your cycle gets longer or your period is missed when you’re under a deadline at work or you’re too stressed + too much exercise + not enough food = the body is saying “Breeding isn’t a priority right now, so we can skip ovulation this month”.

When it comes to supporting our body’s balance, let’s not forget our hardy adrenal glands. These tiny glands, located on top of our kidneys like adorable little hats, play a vital role in balancing hormones and keeping our internal systems running smoothly.

Now, here’s a fun fact: Did you know that adding healthy fats to our diet can support the health of our adrenal glands? Yes, that’s right! Foods like avocados, nuts and olive oil are like a nutritional high-5 for our adrenals, helping them function at their best and keeping our hormonal balance in check.

To provide the best balance for our bodies, regulate blood sugar, improve metabolic flexibility and increase insulin sensitivity, we need to support it!

But, how do we do this?

A small way is to add a small drink called an adrenal cocktail. Provides essential vitamins and minerals, especially potassium, sodium and whole food vitamin C, not ascorbic acid.

Each “Arenal Cocktail” recipe should provide approximately:

  • 375 mg Potassium (ATP, electrolytes)
  • 460mg Sodium (electrolytes, blood pressure and energy)
  • 60mg of whole food Vitamin C (our adrenals need more in times of stress and a carbohydrate source)

Adrenal cocktails can be a mixture of orange juice, coconut water, salt and/or cream of tartar. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, why not sprinkle in a scoop of collagen powder? It’s like an invisible superhero that steps in to support your joints, hair, nails and skin – giving you that extra boost for a really great workout!

Some of my favorite recipes that are precise and help accommodate many people can be found here. I ordered Redmond’s sea salt from Thrive Market <— my link gives you 40% off your first order. I also love Morley Robbins' work and you can download its free PDF.

When should you drink an adrenal cocktail?

  • For breakfast! If you’re not a “morning person” and the thought of food in your stomach turns you green, or you’re usually intermittent fasting and caffeinated all morning, this drink is a great way to jumpstart your metabolism and get the fire going.
  • When the energy is low around 10 am. and 2 – 3 p.m
  • Before bed if you usually wake up between 2-4am and can’t get back to sleep
  • Before or after training

Indulge your taste buds with a boost of health and flavor from Adrenal Cocktail!

And there you have it, my fitness-savvy friends! Adrenal cocktails are not just your ordinary bitters, oh no! It’s the secret weapon to keeping your blood sugar regulated and feeling as energetic as a kangaroo on a trampoline. Not to mention, they taste like orange custard, which is basically a flavor explosion in your mouth that would make Willy Wonka jealous. These delicious concoctions are packed with the nutrients your body craves, from vitamin C to electrolytes, giving you a boost of vitality while pleasing your taste buds.

So the next time you need a sweet and fluffy treat that’s good for your body, whip up an adrenal cocktail and get ready to feel like a superhero with a straw. Trust me, your taste buds and energy levels will thank you! Health with health and magical flavors!

Have you tried an adrenal cocktail before? Is this something you think you would incorporate into your routine?

Another one of my favorite morning drinks is this morning detox drink.
