I had the pleasure of getting these samples of the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet collection from Anastasia Soare herself at a dinner party in London last week. She even told me her favorite shade. Here’s the lowdown on this new matte lip color, with photos and swatches.

How to apply Lip Velvet
This formula is really easy to apply thanks to the shape of the applicator that hugs the lip line and fills up very quickly.
The brand recommends using the point of the stick to trace the bow of your lips and line the outer edges of the lips. Then use the flat side to fill in the lips with color.

My review
I first tried Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet at the brand’s launch dinner and put it on in pretty low light so I couldn’t really see what I was doing. The wand makes application quite easy, as the point can be used to line the lips, before swiping the formula onto the lips for full coverage.
When I tested in better light, it looked good, so these Lip Velvets aren’t really hard to work with.
I went for the shade Kiss, which is Anastasia’s nude of choice, and it’s such a pretty shade.
The texture of Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet is very nice. It feels soft, smooth and bouncy and really softens the lips with color. Although it’s a long-lasting matte formula, there’s still some movement and glide to the consistency, so it doesn’t feel drying or drying on the lips.
For best results, you want to make sure there are no dry or flaky patches on your lips, so I’d suggest a quick scrub and a very light coat of a non-glossy lip balm to prep. Check out my post on Best Lip Balms for Dry Lips.
That said, even if you have some dryness, the Lip Velvet finish is very good at smoothing out any texture and blurring any imperfections. It is quite impressive.
The formula lasts well on the lips, although you’ll need to top up after eating, but as the formula is flexible and hydrating and glides on well, this isn’t a problem.
There’s a nude here for everyone, and I’m excited to try some of the others. I also really like the look of Pure Hollywood and Crush. Parchment will be great on fair skin tones like mine for a real 99’s vibe.
