Whipped Cocoa Butter is one of my favorite recipes, it’s simple to make, comes out creamy and smells amazing with no artificial flavors. Most importantly, it is packed with vitamins, fatty acids and antioxidants that work wonders for the skin. This body butter is especially great for skin problems including dry itchy skin, stretch marks, scars and dark spots.
As the weather gets colder it’s the perfect time to start moisturizing your skin regularly. For me personally, as soon as the weather changes, I feel a difference in my skin and I like to have self-care items available to start using right away that complement the change of season.
Cocoa butter is the base of this recipe. The cocoa butter I use is raw and 100% pure with no additives. It is beautifully tanned and extremely aromatic of course, smelling like delicious chocolate. It is very beneficial for most skin types and has the ability to penetrate the layers of the skin, which hydrates it deeply and helps the skin retain moisture.
Cocoa butter is commonly found in store-bought creams and lotions for skin hydration, scar reduction, and stretch mark prevention, yet so little of the actual cocoa butter is used in these formulas that it doesn’t compare. When you use the concentrated butter itself in your body butters, you can really see how effective it is for your skin’s health.
Jojoba oil is also in this recipe. It’s a lovely, golden oil (actually a liquid wax) that is very similar to the oil that the skin produces naturally, called sebum. Because of this, Jojoba oil can help regulate sebum production in the skin. It’s a great option for those with oily and acne-prone skin and is actually a safe option for all skin types. Jojoba is native to the southwestern US and is pressed from the seeds of the Jojoba plant. Jojoba has antibacterial properties due to its high iodine content and is anti-inflammatory, so it can help soften skin damage from the elements. It will also help stimulate collagen production, which is a property that many of the best skin foods possess.
Coconut oil first gained popularity as a general beauty and health oil about twenty years ago. Since then, it is still going strong due to its beneficial properties. Skin-protecting antioxidants help reverse damage and create a protective barrier against the elements. It has a lovely natural scent and sinks into the skin quickly without leaving an oily residue. It pairs beautifully with cocoa butter to hydrate the skin, so I included it in this body butter as well.
Vanilla Bean is a fun addition to this recipe that I personally love. It doesn’t have any special benefits for the skin, however it does add the natural scent of vanilla which is a wonderful, relaxing smell. It also leaves cute flecks of vanilla in the butter which is a nice touch. This is an optional ingredient, so if it’s not for you, just leave it out.
