Cover Up, Of Course! The Lpn's Pick For The Best

A few weeks ago I received an email from an LPN reader asking for help. Funnily enough, she was facing the same product conundrum I’ve been facing for ages: what is the best natural under eye concealer?! As an NBB (natural beauty blogger), I’ve had my fair share of product trials – and when it comes to concealer, I’ve hunted high and low for the most effective product (not even all of the ones shown below). Today I am excited to bring you the best natural concealers.

When I say best, I mean an under-eye concealer that covers dark circles, doesn’t make fine lines, and isn’t too greasy so your mascara ends up everywhere it shouldn’t—and a concealer that camouflages blemishes without showing dry, cakey and full of chemicals.

Okay, so which stalkers made the LPN hot list? There were some that gave good results — but I wanted to talk about the best results. Let’s get straight to it!

Jane Iredale’s Circle Delete Under Eye Concealer

Wowza – here is the under eye winner, after years (?) of trying everything under the sun under my eyes. I love RMS beauty’s un-coverup, and I’ve also had a thing for Au Naturel’s concealer and Ilia’s really natural concealer – they’re all great for correcting a little discolouration. However, nothing seemed to be enough after a string of late nights.

On my trip to Copenhagen with my girlfriends a few weeks ago, I tried almost every concealer I could get my hands on Pure Shop. What did I leave with? My all time favorite natural under eye concealer.

Available in yellow, peach and golden brown, Jane Iredale concealer it has what you need for every skin tone.

I took home Yellow (#1) as I find with purple dark circles, yellow is best for neutralizing the color. How to apply? With a concealer brush I blended the darker tone into the corners of my eyes first, then using the other side of the brush I slightly highlighted the inner corner and blended it downwards, first with my ring and then with my beauty blender .

Because it’s a thicker concealer, it actually covers! What I also do is set the concealer with a powder — I use 100% silica powder which is translucent. i use mine Concealer brush Airbrush EcoTools (which you met in last week’s post) to set my makeup and avoid mascara getting on my lower eyes. Setting is also essential for concealer longevity (especially if you use eye cream or face oils). I want to note that as with every concealer I’ve used, I always have to reapply at the end of the day (say, if I’m running to dinner straight from work). Well, needless to say, this isn’t “stage makeup” (what is, other than actual stage makeup?), but it’s a beautiful concealer that works.

Moringa butter, avocado oil and green tea extract really work as a ‘treatment’ under the eye area – and the rest of the ingredients are lovely and quite natural.

Concealer Vapor Organic Beauty Illusionist

Another beautiful product is Organic Beauty’s Illusionist Vapor Concealer. The Illusionist Concealer is super easy to apply – although I prefer to use a makeup brush on my skin so it doesn’t smudge when I use it on problem areas.

However, I have used it directly on my skin to cover dark circles. It is slightly lighter than Erasure of Jane Iredale’s cycle, so it will never settle into those fine lines and blends beautifully. Also, the convenient tube makes it very convenient for the wallet and on the go. I do the same here in terms of blending with a beauty blender and setting with silica powder and mine EcoTools brush.

Illusionist’s light but rich pigment means you can use it on areas of varying pigmentation (think around the nose in the cold season) to instantly give skin a healthier, more even appearance. The ingredients are organic, include soothing frankincense, antioxidant tulle and soothing lotus. I bought mine in 015 (pictured below).

Jane Iredale’s Disappear in Light

She’s done it again – Jane Iredale got something so right when it comes to natural concealers. Her “Disappear” was actually the first concealer I tried and it stood up to all the other products I tried on my spots, freckles and anything else I could find to cover up.

I have to admit, I doubt I’d ever find something so pigmented in the wild that I could cover the reddest of hormonal acne – or the dark pigment spot I have above my eyebrow. That, well that… did. the. all. Like her under-eye concealer, The Disappearance of Jane Iredale it also works as a treatment – again with its antioxidant-packed green tea extract, it’s been shown to fight acne bacteria.

It comes in several shades – I went for light and this is great for my ‘fairly fair’ winter skin.

JI Disappear Shades

While I’m not crazy about the applicator (it’s a little unsanitary if you put it directly on your skin), I squeezed the product onto a clean concealer brush and gently dabbed it onto the area that needed coverage. After that I blended it out with my Beauty Blender.

That being said it is not too good to be true. Here’s why:

The ingredients: as far as it goes, it’s pretty good. BUT there is a not so nice one, PEG 100 Stearate. PEG 100 Stearate is rated 3 in the EWG’s Skin Deep database for contamination concerns (not related to reproductive health). However, for that reason, this won’t be my everyday concealer, but I’ll probably use it if I’m going out and need to make sure something doesn’t see the light of day 😉

Ok beauties, there you have it. No need for the other 20!
