I love a lip crayon, so I was very excited to try the new ILIA Lip Sketch Hydrating Crayon. I have pictures and samples for you here.

How to use it
These lip pencils are quite easy to use. If you want a bold line, it’s best to keep it fairly sharp. The brand recommends the use of ILIA Great Sharpener* to find an exact point. You could play around and see if any of your current scrapers work, but these are larger than normal sleeves, so you may need the ILIA.
You just need to line the lips first and then color inside the lines for full coverage.
My ILIA Lip Sketch review
I think these are really great lip pencils and all the shades I have are fantastic. I love how easily the color glides on my lips. It has a wonderful emollient texture that doesn’t pull the skin at all.
It feels like a beautiful moisturizing lipstick but in pencil form. The color payoff is really impressive and it takes seconds to get a full lip look. The formula feels more hydrating than a typical lipstick or lip liner and is super comfortable.
It stays moisturizing on the lips and didn’t dry them out at all as promised. One of the claims is thick, which I have to say I didn’t notice, but the formula leaves lips looking smooth and hydrated. I also really like the soft matte finish.
As for accuracy, you’ll need to keep the pencils sharp if you want a very precise line. This will be more important with deeper colors, as you will see with the Blue Note lip swatch, where I could have done a sharper job on the lip line.
One of the downsides is that you’ll probably need the brand’s sharpener, the Great Sharpener*, which is a bit of a pain, but not too expensive. The other thing to watch out for is to make sure you put the cap back on firmly. I was a little slapped around and found that the caps slipped off a couple. You just have to really push them – better safe than sorry!!
The wear time of ILIA Lip Sketch is good. They don’t wear all day, but it will definitely be a few hours before you need to reapply. They’re also great under gloss if you want a more hydrated and glowy look and feel.
I love the shade Piazza which is a beautiful, super vibrant red. Also the genre is my other favorite. It’s the perfect 90s nude. I absolutely love it.
