We had the pleasure of talking to Juanda Roberts to find out more about her journey. Read our conversation below:

HH: What inspired you to go from corporate America to open princess hair pizzazz?

I wanted to create something of my own and finally continue my business dreams. In addition, I had children later in life after overcoming infertility. Being able to check my program and be active, the present mother was – and is still – is extremely important to me.

HH: How did you envision Princess Hair Pizzazz when you first started?
I thought it as a luxurious place where all girls, especially brown girls, could feel celebrated while learning about self-care and care from an early age. I was inspired to start this business because I struggled with my daughter’s hair management alongside my many other responsibilities. I wanted to give a solution for busy mothers and dads – a “magic button” to facilitate their lives.

HH: How did you manage to grow into four locations in five years?
The key factors behind our rapid growth include:

  1. The building of a capable group that is closely aligned with the vision of my brand.
  2. Creating stable processes and implementation of technology systems for operations management effectively.
  3. Practical targeted financial management by focusing investments in the most efficiency, such as resources, marketing and innovation.

HH: What challenges did you face when expanding your business?
There were many challenges, but the first three were:

  1. Making difficult decisions to divide ways with basic members of the group who were not aligned with the vision of my brand.
  2. Navigation at increased costs after the bell, especially the cost of manufacturing the living room, which can accelerate financial management when you are self -funded.
  3. Adaptation quickly when leadership plans for new lounges did not start as expected, demanding that I design and implement new strategies in a short period of time.

HH: How your slogan, “beautifully you”, configure the customer’s experience and brand identity?
“Beautiful you” is the foundation of all we do. Our goal is to ensure that every young girl who enters our living room feels confident about her unique beauty – the length of hair, texture and skin – because it is exactly the way God created. This belief is reflected in the “Shero Wall”, which has photographs of influence of African American women. Every living room projects this wall to inspire girls, especially brown girls, to consider themselves capable of achieving anything they put their minds. Our retail offers also include unique objects designed to celebrate their individuality and beauty.

HH: What is the role that community’s involvement in your business plays?
Community commitment is a cornerstone of our business. We try to be an active and supportive part of every community where our lounges are. We often provide financial and donations to local schools and organizations to give back and have a positive impact.

HH: What does Princess Hair Pizzazz put in addition to other children’s hairdressers?
We stand out because we specifically serve the children, filling a place in the living room market, which focuses on adult lounges. I created a luxury experience that celebrates children, especially Brown girls, in an unparalleled way.

Our lounges offer a children -friendly atmosphere with age -appropriate music, performances and conversations. In addition to hair services, we focus on strengthening our new customers inspired by “Shero Wall” and carefully diligent retail items that reflect their beauty and abilities. We also emphasize healthy hair care using quality products and give priority to customer service to ensure that every visit is a complete, luxurious experience. Princess Hair Pizzazz is not just a living room. It is a destination that celebrates diversity, beauty and empowerment while leaving a permanent impact on the lives weh. ”

HH: How has it affected the background of your corporate leadership how you perform your business?
My corporate leadership background helped me on how I run my business. I approach it as a business, not just as a living room. We have a leadership team, regular meetings, established processes and systems, marketing plan and PR, financial monitoring and career development paths. Performing a business requires consistent, deliberate focus on basic functions – which I put in my corporate leadership during my time.

HH: What advice would you give businessmen to entrepreneurs who balance business and family life?
My advice is that while you can have it all, you may not be able to have it all at the same time. Depending on the phase of life you are, you may need to reduce back to one area to prioritize another. For example, avoid planning a significant launch of businesses during important personal events, such as having a baby. In addition, create clear boundaries between CEO and personal operation. Knowing when to activate and disable each one is vital to sustainability and balance.
