My review of the NARS Powermatte High Intensity Lip Pencil

The original NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils were a big deal when they came out back in the day. I remember being so excited when they launched 10 new shades in 2017!

The new NARS Powermatte High Intensity Lip Pencil is an instant win for me because I already loved the Velvet Mattes and this formula is even longer lasting and I love the packaging that matches the colors!

This formula uses a technology called Power Pigment Technology that uses a blend of pure pigments in emollient oils and color-locking ingredients. It is also now free of parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde release agents, phthalates, mineral oils, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, SLS & SLES sulfates, triclocarban, triclosan and contains less than one percent synthetic fragrance.

I believe the original Velvet Matte Lip Pencils have been discontinued, so any shades available now will eventually sell out or become unavailable.

I love the range of shades in this first collection of NARS Powermatte High Intensity Lip Pencil. I’m so happy to see Dolce Vita there as it’s one of my favorite NARS lip shades and I’m obsessed with it in Afterglow Lip Balm form – check out the swatches here. I’m sure this shade will sell out in the new Powermatte formula, so be sure to grab it while you still can. Other shades that seem to be selling fast are American Woman and Walkyrie.

I know there are some favorite shades in the old Velvet Mattes that didn’t make the cut, but I imagine new shades will be added to this collection in the future.

These pencils are great because they can be sharpened and the shape of the pencil means you can line and define and fill in with color all in one. The texture is beautifully smooth and creamy, and the finish is a soft matte that remains flexible on the lips but lasts very well.
