We are so lucky to live in a time (and place) where dermal filler injections are an option.
In about an hour, we can safely and effectively modify our appearance to better achieve the desired results. whether it’s overall rejuvenation, contouring, adding volume to the lips, etc.
Because of this ability to safely and satisfyingly adjust our appearances and instantly boost our self-esteem — fillers in Philadelphia continue to grow dramatically in popularity and demand.
When done correctly, filler injections in Philadelphia:
- Supply immediate results and satisfaction.
- Plump the skin in a way that is not possible with any other option. (No skin care product can add the volume that fillers can, and although laser treatments and surgeries can drastically tighten the skin – dermal filler injections are the easiest way to add natural-looking volume to the face .)
- Look completely natural! (Good injections should look like NO injections. The treatment should make you look and feel better, but in an ideal world your friends and family shouldn’t be able to tell exactly what has changed about you. )
However, even though dermal filler injections in Philadelphia are more popular than ever, there remains a stigma (for some) about the treatments.
It’s easy to hear the words Botox the Filler and instantly create the terrifyingly altered faces of some famous celebrities who barely look like themselves (or people, for that matter) anymore. Natural it certainly wasn’t the look they wanted, and these plastic, waxy, obviously overstuffed faces keep many people from truly exploring the antiaging and beauty options available to them.
The great news?
Although the vast majority of people LOVE their filling results, *IF* for whatever reason we HATE seeing your results, you have several options to fix / delete the problem area. (The fact that these injections are not permanent usually helps give great peace of mind to first-timers who are nervous about what to expect.)
Let’s pretend you’ve just injected your lips to perfect your pout, and at first glance it looks like your results end up looking more Kylie circa 2018 than Kylie 2024.
What are you doing;
My love, be sure. You have options.
1. Be patient
When you’re in the middle hyper-swollen lips, “patience” is the last word of advice you want to hear. But realistically, if it’s been less than 48 hours since your injections and things look bigger than expected, lopsided, feel out of place, whatever, try NOT to SCRATCH.
Take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that the swelling does not always appear evenly and until all the swelling is gone it is impossible to assess your results.
We can sympathize first hand: the first few days after injections can to be really annoying.
But, we promise: the swelling will be over before you know it, and your results will (probably) make you happy enough to alleviate any brief swelling. (If the swelling is extremely problematic for you, taking an OTC anti-inflammatory like Aleve may help, and icing the treatment area may help provide some relief.)
Everyone heals differently, but it may take up to 2 weeks for your body to fully integrate the injectable product. Patience is vital during this process.
However, if enough time goes by and you still feel overly bloated or crooked?
2. Filler Massage
The dermal filler used on you will remain somewhat pliable for about a month after the injection. If you feel your filler has migrated to unwanted areas or isn’t as smooth as you’d like, massage is always an option. Your treatment provider should be able to use their fingers to gently force the product back to where it should be and teach you how to do it yourself if additional spot massage is needed in the future.
(Why does product migration happen? Surprisingly, if your product is moving after the injection has been given, it is NOT necessarily because the injector did something wrong. The younger the patient, the stronger the facial muscles, and sometimes the muscles can pull the filler to areas other than where it was injected. Don’t worry though, the unruly product can usually be massaged into obedience.)
If the massage doesn’t work? ??
3. Solvent Filler
Since you’ve been injected with a hyaluronic acid-based filler (and most of them are, including Restylane, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Silk, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, and Juvederm Voluma), you always have the nuclear option: The filler can to dissolve with Hyaluronidase.
This will allow you to go back to baseline as if the whole thing never happened.
Hyaluronidase is an injectable enzyme that is sent wherever the unwanted filler is. This enzyme breaks down hyaluronic acid and essentially reverses the filler treatment. These injections are usually a last resort because there can be bruising and swelling associated with Hyaluronidase, but knowing that this option exists makes patients feel much better. If they HATE their injections, they have an appeal.
In addition, just as the filler injections themselves are completely customized per patient, the Hyaluronidase injections will also be customized according to your needs. For example, if you want to reduce the size of your lips a bit without taking everything apart, you can use Hyaluronidase to make just tiny tweaks.
4. Choosing the RIGHT provider for you
Of course putting yours face in one’s hands experienced injector it should be the first step you take before committing to any process. If you meet an injector and feel any uncertainty or concern DO NOT receive treatment from them! These are procedures that are supposed to make your life better and happier, and this is a medical procedure that comes with its own risks. There are enough treatment providers out there to allow you to be as selective as you want until you find the person who is the best match for you, and your face shouldn’t be a practice ground or test for beginners.
Dealing with someone you trust (and like) will make everything better for you. You’ll feel more comfortable from the start, and if you have any complications, you’ll be dealing with someone you like and trust to handle the situation appropriately.

FYI: Dermal fillers that do NOT dissolve
Poly-L-lactic acid fillers (Sculptra) or calcium-based microspheres (Radiesse) are not permanent, but because they are not hyaluronic acid-based, they are not as easily reversible as the Restylane and Juvederm families.
Radiesse is a filler-like substance that is injected deep into the skin to add volume to deep wrinkles and other areas that have lost significant volume. The calcium-based microspheres in Radiesse are injected using a gel formula, and once injected, there is no countervailing antidote.
The Poly-L-lactic acid in Sculptra is a synthetic gel made with lactic acid, which is naturally found in the body, but, unlike hyaluronic acid, it also has no antidote that reverses the effect.
