Are you overwhelmed by the fast-paced beauty industry that keeps bombarding you with the latest trends and product launches? It’s time to slow down and embrace slow beauty.
In this episode of Green Beauty Conversations, Lorraine Dallmeier, Chartered Environmentalist, Biologist and CEO of Formula Botanica, shares why we need to rethink our beauty habits and 8 ways to embrace slow beauty.
Based on last week’s insightful chat with Krave Beauty’s Liah Yoo, Lorraine shares her thoughts on how to take a more mindful approach to beauty.
If you find yourself caught up in the hype of fast beauty, constantly buying new products that promise miracles but end up cluttering up your space, this episode is a must-listen.
“Slow beauty is about embodying an ethos of sustainability and ethics, seeking to do the right thing in the right situation. It’s not just about consuming less, it’s about consuming better.” — Lorraine Dahlmeier
Basic foods:
- Buy what you need, when you need it: Slow beauty starts with a simple principle: buy beauty products because you need them, not because of a trend or a fleeting desire. Instead of buying in bulk or storing items that may expire before use, prioritize quality over quantity.
- Embrace a cohesive product range: Instead of using an overwhelming number of products that can damage your skin, consider a minimalist approach. Lorraine advocates a capsule skincare routine, focusing on key formulas like cleanser, moisturizer, serum and sunscreen. This minimalist strategy not only benefits your skin but also reduces clutter in your bathroom cabinet.
- Adopt a mindful beauty routine: The “beauty snacking” trend encourages overconsumption and waste. Lorraine advises against this approach and suggests being intentional about when and how you apply your personal care products. Understanding your skin’s needs and sticking to a routine can lead to better results, less mess, and a more relaxing experience.
- Choose multipurpose products: Using multi-purpose products can simplify your beauty routine while contributing to sustainability. Be careful when choosing products and reduce the number of items you need and use.
- Follow conscious influencers: The influence of social media has led to the normalization of excessive cosmetics and overconsumption. Be discreet about who you follow. Choose influencers like Liah Yoo who are advocating for a more sustainable and mindful beauty industry.
