Podcast 262: why keeping your beauty brand is an option

You don’t have to escalate your beauty brand internationally to be successful. In fact, maintaining the little one is an option.

The beauty industry often glorifies the rapid expansion – ensuring investment, starting with large retailers and breaking into world markets. But increasing the biggest is not the right path for everyone and you do not need to follow this model if you do not want.

Last week, Lorraine Dallmeier – the chartered environmentalist, biologist and chief executive of Formula Botanica – spoke with Karmen Novak, founder of Flower and Spice, about her brand trip and her experience to China. Karmen shared the challenges of distance management, cooperation with distributors and adapting to a completely new market.

While working for Karmen and her brand, not everyone should follow this path. And this is something we don’t talk enough in the beauty industry: The choice not scale.

In this episode of green beauty conversations, Lorraine is exploring because maintaining your young beauty brand can be a strategic and amazing choice.

If you have ever felt pressure to scale your beauty brand, but wondered if the young man could really be the smartest choice, this episode is for you.

“Not every beauty brand must be escalated to be successful. – Lorraine Dallmeier

KEYS PRODUCTION:

  • Success does not always mean global expansion: Many indie beauty entrepreneurs start their brands because they love shaping and creating high quality products. But sometimes, the pressure to expand (cooperation with distributors, managing large -scale production and retail targets for example) can take the founders away from what they love most and their overall vision.
  • Maintaining your brand little one has real advantages: The stay of the young gives you more creative freedom, closer relationships with customers and fewer financial risks. Without the stress of escalation, you can focus on the quality, viability and building of a business that works for your life.
  • The beauty industry is not a size-hinge-all: Some brands thrive in the world retail, while others find success with their stay and independent. Both models are valid and the choice of the right road depends on your personal and professional goals.
  • Growth must be aligned with your vision: Scaling is not the only way to succeed and do not have to do so if this is not what you want for your beauty brand. Often, the most viable and satisfying businesses are those that remain loyal to their mission, remain economically viable and allow their founders to thrive.
  • At Formula Botanica, we help the founders determine their own definition of success: Through our diploma in beauty management, we encourage students to decide early on the type of brand they want to build, whether they dream of a global brand or a smaller lifestyle business. Both are valid and both are feasible if you have the right tools and knowledge at hand.
