Each month, 1.5 billion toothpaste pipes are launched – this is 18 billion per yearMost of which cannot be recycled due to mixed plastics and leaves. They end up in landfills, incinerators or oceans, however, the discussion on sustainable packaging rarely involves oral care.
Have we seen viability discussions reshape skin care, makeup and hair care, but why is toothpaste still stuck in the past? Why don’t we require a change from the big brands that dominate the supermarket shelves? The truth is that they will not change until they do it.
Last week, Lorraine Dallmeier-Formula Botanica’s chartered environmentalist, biologist and chief executive, with Axel Kaiser of Denttabs, the pioneer of Tuptraws tablets, an alternative to no water, which has passed for 20 years.
But why hasn’t this innovation take over? And should, as consumers, be the ones who will drive the charge? Let’s talk about this in this episode of Green Beauty talks.
“If we know that 1.5 billion pipes go to waste every month, if we know that one tablet can work just as well, if not better, then why do we still push plastic pipes? – Lorraine Dallmeier
KEYS PRODUCTION:
- Toothpaste pipes are an environmental disaster. Each month, the 1.5 billion toothpaste pipes are rejected and the vast majority cannot be recycled. The beauty industry has embraced viable packages in other areas, so why is oral care left behind?
- Large brands do not drive sustainable change – small brands do. History shows that indie brands lead the way of viability. From the solid bars shampoo to the repaid deodorants, small, mission -based companies take risks before Big Beauty follow. The same is true of denture tablets.
- Toothpaste is not just about the tube – it’s a wording. Traditional toothpaste contains up to 50% water and unnecessary fillers. Transition to tablets means a review of the way toothpaste is made, packaged and marketed – a change that big players are not willing to do if they are not forced.
- We don’t have to wait for the industry – we can act now. The problem feels overwhelming, but denture tablets offer a simple, effective exchange that has a real impact. The more people make the switch, the more difficult it will be for the big brands to ignore.
- Are you ready to question the rule? Try denture tablets. Try an alternative and see how easy it is to brush without a plastic tube. The more we embrace these changes, the faster the industry needs to follow.
