“This is not just about the packaging option that seems viable – it’s about to know if it will be recycled where your customers really live.” – Renata Daudt

In this episode with Renata Daudt, you will hear:

  • Because new packaging regulations are imposed on the EU, the United Kingdom and Australia. How new regulations will affect the beauty brands worldwide.
  • What are the ecological fees? How certain materials are taxed significantly more than others.
  • The importance of single-material packaging. Because the pathway is better and why mixing plastics or the use of colored glass could land your product in a landfill.
  • Why the brands need to understand the recycling infrastructure in every market they sell. How this affects design decisions.
  • How indie brands can make smarter packaging options. As an indie brand, you can avoid high penalties and deliver true circularity.

Basics include:

  • Package charges are no longer a theoretical risk – they are now happening. In the EU, the PPWR setting Commands based on types of types and weight weights have also come into force. Follows the UK EPR and plastic tax regulations. These changes mean that trademarks must be monitored, reported and in many cases pay for their packaging options.
  • Mono-Multi is your safest bet for global compliance. Renata explains that when different materials are merged (such as metal sources or multi -layer plastic pumps), they often become unused. Mono-material designs, or at least easily disassembled, are likely to be recycled and cost less in ecological fees.
  • The whole glass is not created. The colored, frozen or mirror glass may look beautiful, but many local recycling systems cannot be processed, especially in Australia. Transparent glass is often required for proper recycling and failure to meet these standards could lead to additional fees or waste.
  • The label is more important than you think. If your product does not have the correct recycling label or does not inform consumers how to reject the packaging, you could deal with sanctions. Renata emphasizes that even small beauty brands need to create space for this vital information, either in packages or through boxes and digital content.
  • Sustainability is not a size-it hits everything. Materials such as bioplastics, repatriots and fertilization may look attractive, but without the proper infrastructure for their collection and processing, they may do more harm than good. Brands should align the packaging decisions with peripheral infrastructure, not just the tendencies of sustainability.
