My review

I have to say it was love at first try with this foundation, even before working out my perfect shade. The texture of the serum is so beautiful and just melts into the skin like skincare. It’s a fragrance free formula, however, it smells like skincare which I really like.

The coverage is buildable and perfects the complexion even in the lightest layers, and the finish is shiny and healthy and never feels greasy for me. It just gives me a gorgeous finish with a really vibrant look. Plus it has a great correcting ability which means I can skip concealer if I want to.

It wears really well on me and I only bother with powder if I have a long day. It leaves my skin super hydrated and calm.

What skin types is it good for?

Shiseido says Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation is suitable for all skin types from dry to oily. I have combination-dehydrated skin and absolutely love it. Personally, I’d say mature and dry skin types will love this foundation as it’s super hydrating with a flattering glowy finish. Oilier skin types can also use this, but may like to powder any areas that tend to shine.

Do you need to dust it?

I think this is entirely up to you and also how much foundation you use. I find I don’t really need powder if I use a light layer of the product. If I build up the coverage, the finish tends to be more shimmery and then the areas where you shine the most may need a bit of powder. I definitely don’t need to put the whole face on.

If you are polishing, I would recommend a little dust on these parts. For me, this is a bit on my chin and sides of my nose.

Is it easy to apply and how should you apply it?

This is such an easy foundation to apply and blend. It has a light, liquid texture that melts into the skin effortlessly and gives a gorgeous smooth finish with minimal blending.

As this is a skincare formula, it’s really great to apply with your fingers. For fuller coverage, Shiseido recommends using the HASU FUDE Foundation Brush.

How is Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation coverage?

This foundation is designed as a light to medium, buildable coverage foundation. In fact, I was very pleasantly surprised by how much coverage the formula provides considering its super lightweight texture.

One coat gives a light-medium coverage that is very skin perfect and beautifully glowy. You can build it to a good medium in any area you want more coverage.

A few times I’ve tried it, I’ve skipped the concealer and I haven’t really missed it. For a light-medium coverage base it has excellent skin perfecting action.

How is the finish?

The finish of Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation is absolutely beautiful. As a constant glow seeker, I love the shimmery finish of this foundation and it’s quite buildable. A light layer gives a soft glow and you can build up the glow with an extra layer so it can be as bright as you want and you can lightly set any areas you don’t want shine.

How shiny is it?

Like I said, you can adjust the glow with this foundation. A light layer gives perfect coverage to the skin and a soft glossy shine. You can build up the glow with an extra layer without it feeling too heavy or shiny. It is so beautiful.

Is it good for dry and mature skin types?

This foundation is great for dry and mature skin because it’s super hydrating and nourishing and gives such a juicy, healthy and youthful finish. Skincare ingredients deliver 24-hour hydration and help protect the skin barrier, plus niacinamide for smoothness and radiance.

Is Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation good for oily skin types?

As it has a lovely shimmery finish and I know a lot of people with oilier skin types prefer a more matte finish, it might not be an obvious choice for those with oily skin. That said, a light layer gives a very natural glow and you can powder any areas of particular concern. The formula contains niacinamide which is great for balancing the skin and regulating oil production. It is excellent for all skin types.

Does it last long?

I’m so happy with how this foundation wears, especially as it’s a glowy skincare foundation. I’ve been wearing it without powder mostly and it sits nicely all day on my skin. I’m combination, although my skin is getting drier as I get older, and I’m prone to dehydration. I find it’s super kind on pores and keeps them minimized pretty much all day.

Does it cover melasma?

I don’t have melasma however I find this is great on my evening skin tone and minimizes the appearance of my hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Even a light layer gives beautiful skin-perfecting coverage and like I said, I’ve been able to skip the concealer when I want a really natural look. It’s great coverage for such a light texture.

Does it cover redness?

I have some redness around my chin and nose and I find that a light layer of this foundation clears it up very quickly. It’s great for a night out and gives a very natural yet refined look.

How does Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation compare to Synchro-Skin Self Refreshing Foundation?

Synchro-Skin Self Refreshing Foundation is also one of my favorite everyday foundations. I’m wearing shade 310 Silk and I find this gives a similar tone and shade to Revitalessence in 250 Sand. I find the latter seems a bit light as I apply it and then as the skincare sinks in it becomes a beautiful match.

Revitalessence gives more glow than Synchro Skin and slightly less coverage, although it’s really great for the skin as it neutralizes redness and hyperpigmentation and blurs pores and fine lines.

My shadow

For all my twins, I know this is a very important piece!

I spent quite some time choosing my shade from the three swatches I have. The shades are quite close as you will see from the photos and have slight undertones. Having tried all three, I decided 250 is my best match.

I find the drydown of this formula to be slightly darker than it initially appears. This isn’t oxidation, but more precipitation as the skincare ingredients sink into the skin, so you can probably go a little lighter than you think.

For reference, my favorite shade in the Shiseido Synchro-Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation is 310 Silk.

Another very good match to mention is NARS Light Reflecting in Deauville. Check it out here.
