Regardless of your tried and true fit, 2025 could be the year you expand your denim horizons, as the up-and-coming true blues trends are undeniably a breath of fresh air.
According to Shopbop’s senior fashion director, Caroline Maguirethis year’s denim trends will be all about reinvention — namely, classic silhouettes with unexpected twists. “We’re seeing a mix of nostalgia and innovation,” he tells Refinery29. “While some trends embrace the past with vintage-inspired washes and silhouettes, others embrace modern, eye-catching details that feel completely fresh.” He adds that the masses are looking for denim that stands out, whether through bold treatments, interesting distressing or unique fabrics.
Meantime, Erin Meehancreative director of women’s denim at Frame, says the focus will be on slim, sleek and tailored silhouettes in 2025. “There will still be a presence of a play on proportion,” she says. “Women need multiple shapes in their wardrobe now to give them unlimited style options and comfort levels, from super casual to dressier.”

Denim Trend 2025: ’70s-Inspired Flares
Take your wardrobe back to the 70s with a pair of flares inspired by the bygone era.
“Nostalgia is driving the push toward ’70s glamor that we’ll see on both sexes in the coming seasons,” explains AG in-house stylist Ashley Catuzzi. The groovy trend is alive and well in the Spring/Summer 2025 collections. At Chloecreative director Chemena Kamali offers a high-waisted look that resembles a pair Phoebe Philo designed in 2004. (Fashion is cyclical, after all.) Contemporary brands like AG of course, as well as Anthropologie and Torrid now offer the dramatic appearance — choose your fighter.
Denim Trend 2025: Barrel– Jeans on the leg
Picking up where it left off in 2024, barrel jeans are set to take an even bigger plunge in 2025. According to of Pistola founder, Grace Na, is the latest hero silhouette: “The barrel leg accentuates the bottom half of an outfit, allowing the top to be more fitted and put together. When you get the fit right, this silhouette can be very flattering.” Celebrities such as Blake Lively and Julianne Moore have also co-signed the jeans – a testament to the style’s cool charisma.
Denim Trend 2025: Jorts
Sun is out, legs out: Jorts will swell next year, confirms AG’s Catuzzi. In Copenhagen, Scandi-cool labels like Skall Studio and Caro Publications showcased their looks, the former giving jorts a polished twist with their clean, knee-length style and the latter offering a vibrant pair with bold red lip patterns and a cigarette dangling from the mouth. Dieselalso redefines classic trousers for spring, showcasing a style with captivating long fringe detailing that reaches from the upper thigh to the calf. When it comes to styling your jorts, Catuzzi loves strappy sandals, mules or knee-high boots — go with whatever makes the most sense for the forecast.
Denim Trend 2025: Distressed Jeans
“Distressed denim is making a major comeback, with shoppers drawn to its effortless, vibrant look,” says Maguire. “From subtle skins to bold, chunky finishes, this trend appeals to those looking for a relaxed yet edgy aesthetic.” The fashion director also notes that an edgy look is a surefire way to add texture and personality to any outfit. Designers love it on the runways MM6 Maison Margiela and Diesel have made a compelling case for the early inspired denim silhouette.
Denim Trend 2025: Bootcut Jeans
Ready or not, low-rise denim boots are expected to hit in 2025 — just ask Still herefounder of Sonia Moseri. “This has been a trend I’ve seen slowly develop,” notes the expert. Designers including Mosseri breathe new life into the Y2K-inspired look with cropped silhouettes, interesting stitching and more fresh details. Meehan is on the same page, noting how modern boots with a more gradual, smooth transition from knee to leg opening are well on their way to reign supreme. “On the other end of the spectrum, the super baggy cargo will also make a comeback,” says Mosseri, referring to the aforementioned bootcut trend. The slouchy look is also the antithesis of the skinny jeans that have been discovered lately. With functional pockets and a flattering, roomy fit, it’s no wonder style mavens like Katie Holmes have embraced the fit with open arms.
Denim Trend 2025: Dark Wash Jeans
Elena Bonvicini, the founder of the brand loved by celebrities EB Denimpoints to dark denim as a look to watch out for in the coming months. “It comes with the minimal chic look we’re seeing right now,” she says of the up-and-coming trend. And she’s absolutely right: There’s something about a deeper shade of denim that feels a smudge more polished than, say, an ultra-light wash.
Denim Trend 2025: Double Denim
Why wear one denim look when you can sport two?
