Congratulations on Emmy’s recent victory for excellent period or fantasy makeup for Shōgun! Can you tell us how your journey started as a professional makeup artist?

Thank you … I started my journey as a makeup artist in the theater section University of British Columbia. There, I was an actor and found myself more attracted to the background and creating makeup makeup. My first job after apprenticeship in theater was the search planning for works and teaching actors to apply their own makeup. The developing film and television industry in Vancouver was a natural next step. The victory of an Emmy was such a price and I think it was a culmination of my 30 years in the business that worked throughout Canada, Europe and Asia. Equally important, it was a confirmation that I chose the right path when I left the roles of the performers back.

For a series such as “The Last of Us”, where actors are exposed to wind, dirt, sun or long hours outdoors, how do you protect and care for their skin throughout production?

My approach to skin care in every production is to design a strong skin care plan for every actor and be diligent with it. Eminence Organics was needed to help design these routines so that the actors could always clean makeup, relax, moisturize and protect the skin, in trailer makeup and at home. We relied largely on the lemon grass cleaner, because no one has ever reacted to it and it is so mild, even on sensitive skin, but so effective. We also used the echinacea recovery cream to nourish and relax the skin after a long day in an extreme weather set. Bella Ramsey He loved this cream after removing all their makeup.

Do you have tips on skin care or scenes that everyday people could use at home-especially to keep the skin healthy and fresh makeup in great days?

I absolutely like to use a tiny drop of Rosehip Triple C+E fircing oil on my finger or a soft, small brush to refresh the concealer around the eyes. I go gently to the concealer, instead of adding more product and dust. This technique removes any cakey-ness and has the additional advantage of helping to smooth out the appearance of fine lines.

My other product is Sun Defense Minerals SPF 30. For external shoots, I like to be able to touch to shine and refresh the actor’s SPF at the same time. It is perfect for protecting and restoring the skin for the camera.

Which Ominence Organics do you rely firmly for personal use while working in the location?

When you are in place for a production, I love using a few drops of apricot body oil in a nice warm bath. Nothing is better after many hours in cold weather and I like the fragrance. It is pure luxury and leaves the skin so hydrated.

Looking back at your work on “The Last of Us” and “Shōgun”, what are you more proud of as a makeup artist?

Looking back to “Shōgun”, in particular, I am very proud of the level of authenticity we achieved as a makeup team. Authentic representation was extremely important for all the departments that collaborated in the show. As makeup artists, I think we were able to get this directive and really research the period, promote other experts in the style of the time, and recreate the appearance many times for months of filmmaking. And I am so proud that this attention to detail resulted in an Emmy for the makeup section.
