As I walked to the train station this morning in a silk short sleeve midi dress – I was COLD! And you know what, I’m okay with that. I’m a fall girl and the last burst of summer heat we had was just one a little bit too much and a a little bit it’s long overdue for me. But the darker mornings are creeping in, there’s a touch of crispness in the air and I’m telling you now the jeans, knits and sandals will be hitting like next week and I for one AM READY FOR IT.

But before I come at you with ALL the fall content, I thought it might be a nice idea to gather my thoughts on my summer wardrobe. I’m usually not the best summer dresser. I sweat profusely, panic and usually hate my outfit by noon. But this summer something changed. I just he made it (and I’m sure that has a lot to do with mine Allison Bernstein session!), and I really enjoyed my wardrobe. I found new outfit combinations and new formulas that just felt “me”. So here’s my edit of the most worn pieces, mostly so I’ll have something to refer to next summer when the ‘I HATE SUMMER dressing’ anxiety kicks in…

BAGS, JEWELRY & SHOES

I would say this class was the biggest game changer for me. I think where I was a bit of a summer hater I hadn’t properly invested in shoes or bags – just a straw bag for a change from the usual leather ones. However, being able to add the right “finishers” to my outfit really allowed me to feel more polished. First, the Lie Studio Julie Drop Earrings* and Elly necklace* – if I wasn’t wearing one of them, then I was wearing the other. When it comes to shoes, I feel like I still have a purchase or two to make next summer – namely Bari Emme Parsons sandals* in a deeper color because I wore these ALL summer and you know it. Then for bags I um-ed and ahh-ed over it St Agni leather bag* for the last two summers, and I’m so glad I took the plunge as it really is the perfect bag as it doesn’t scream summer but still has the texture that outfits sometimes need. These four items alone were the best investments I made this year.

DRESSES & SKIRTS

Skirts and dresses definitely made more a dip in my wardrobe compared to previous years, but I still wear jeans or denim shorts like 80% of the time in the summer. However I reached for it Reformation linen mini dress* more than I thought I would. It was just easy to wear and just what you want to wear on days when you don’t want ANYTHING touching your body. I threw on a twist and some chunky gold jewelry and I was good to go. The only other thing I mention here is the DISSH Silk Midi Skirt* because honestly these two pieces were both the ones I wore every week. I’ve worn it casually with tank tops during the week or dressed it up a bit for garden parties with linen shirts tucked in. A really versatile piece.

TOPS & SHIRTS

This summer was the summer of the knitted vest for me. Waistcoats were and still are everywhere, but the custom versions don’t feel like they quite fit my style vibe. However a looser knitted version? SUBSCRIBE ME. I wore this MANGO knitted vest* to death and still I am. As soon as it comes out of the wash, I wear it again. I also enjoyed wearing this Soeur knitted vest* the days I wouldn’t completely melt into it. If I didn’t make the knit vest, then there was a good chance I would wear it ARKET Linen Shirts*, they are so perfectly oversized and not too long so they are super easy to squeeze. Another winner was DISSH linen cutting*. I wore it a lot with something black on my bottom half to make an all black summer outfit.

SHORTS & TROUSERS

I’m wearing jeans all year round. I’ll happily sweat it out in skinny jeans and a tank top – ‘It’s chic!’ I will pant as sweat drips from my elbows. If you read mine driver jeansthen you’ll know I’m all for it AGOLDE 90’s Pinch Waist Jeans* and it was definitely my denim of the summer. Theirs Parker Long Shorts* It also became my perfect pair of denim shorts and I wore both washes. I have a LOAD. I really enjoy it DISSH linen pants*, although they are underlined, so it’s not one for the hottest days, you know? On days like these I wore mine Linen Shorts ARKET* and paired them with a linen cropped top to give it a bit of a playsuit feel.
